1.UNSC agreed to raise the sanctions imposed against Eritrea

On November 14, 2018, the United Nations Security Council agreed to raise the sanctions imposed against Eritrea (Eritrea, a Northeastern African country) after 9 years in unanimous voting.

2. North Eastern states announced Open Defecation Free (ODF)

On November 14, 2018, the North Eastern states committed themselves to declare themselves as the Open Defecation Free (ODF) by December 2018. The decision was taken during the Regional Review Meeting of North Eastern States held in Guwahati, Assam.

3. ISRO successfully launched the communication satellite GSAT-29

Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) successfully launched the communication satellite GSAT-29 on its heavy-lift Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark III (GSLV MKII-D2) on November 14, 2018.

4. MoU between India-UK Cancer Research Initiative

Department of Biotechnology (DBT) of India and Cancer Research UK on November 14, 2018 signed MoU for India-UK Cancer Research Initiative (MoU).

5. Radha Mohan Singh launched Youth Co-operative Enterprise     Support and Innovation Scheme

On November 14, 2018, Union Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Minister, Radha Mohan Singh launched the ‘Youth Co-operative Enterprise Support and Innovation Scheme‘ of National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC).

Key Fact: This scheme will be linked to the Cooperative Start-up and Innovation Fund (CSIF) of Rs 1000 crore created by NCDC.

6. UNICEF appointed Hima Das India’s first young ambassador

United Nations Children’s Fund-India (UNICEF) appointed Hima Das, the Asian Games gold medalist, India’s first young ambassador on November 14, 2018.

About Hima Das

  • Hima Das is a resident of Nagas district of Assam.
  • In July 2018, Hima wrote history by becoming the first Indian woman athlete to win the gold medal in women’s final 400 meters final at the IAAF World Under-20 Athletics Championship in Tampere, Finland.
  • She is also the first Indian woman to win a gold medal at any athletics meeting globally.
  • Das saw the Indian U-20 record of 51.32 seconds to reach sixth place in the Commonwealth Games 400 meters final in Gold Coast in April 2018

7. Delhi Police launched the e-learning portal ‘NIPUN’

The Delhi Police launched the e-learning portal ‘NIPUN’ to impart training and provide updated information to police officers.

8. Justice SK Seth took oath as Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court

On November 14, 2018, Justice SK Seth took oath as Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court. Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel administered the oath of office to Justice Seth.

9. World Diabetes Day

World Diabetes Day was celebrated worldwide on November 14, 2018 with the theme ‘The Family and Diabetes’.

Key Fact : World Diabetes Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 2007.The purpose of the theme is to bring up awareness of the effect of diabetes on the family.

 

10. Bengaluru was considered as the most surrounded city of India

US-based National Bureau of Economic Research (NBR) recently published a report called ‘Mobility and Consumption in Urban India’. Bengaluru was considered as the most surrounded city of India after Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Pune.
