Biography of Harivansh Rai Bachchan
Harivansh Rai Bachchan or Harivansh Rai Shrivastav was one of the popular names of Hindi literature, the father of famous actor Amitabh Bachchan.
Harivansh Rai Bachchan was a poet of Hindi language, it is believed that his poems changed the Indian literature; their style differed from the poets. Hence they are called the rituality of the new century. His compositions have transmitted the new stream in the poetry of India.

Biography:
Born in the Kayastha family of Allahabad, the ancestor of Harivansh Rai Bachchan was from Babupatti, Raniganj tehsil, which comes in Pratapgarh (UP) District. He was the eldest son of Pratap Narayan Shrivastav and Saraswati Devi. He was known as Bachchan. He completed his primary education from the Zilla Parishad School and kept the tradition of his family forward and studied Urdu in Kayastha Pathshala(Primary school).
After completing his education from the University of Allahabad and the Banaras Hindu University. Following all this, he joined Mahatma Gandhi in the freedom struggle of India. From the Allahabad school, he was given the honor of “the proud student of the past” in the list of 42 members.
From 1941 to 1952, he spent his two years at St. Catherine’s College, Cambridge, while studying at the English Department of Allahabad University. The same poet, W.B. Yeats of English literature from Cambridge University. After completing the Ph.D. by researching the poems of Yeats. And from that time, they started using Bachchan in place of Shrivastav, behind his name.
He was the second Indian to complete Ph.D. from Cambridge University in English. Later, after coming back to India, he started to teach the children and also served the All India Radio, Allahabad.
In 1955, Harivansh Rai Bachchan joined the External Department in Delhi, where he served for many years and also involved in the development of Hindi language. He also contributed the Hindi language to many of his writings. As a poet, he is famous for his poetry “Madhubala”.
Similarly, in November 1984, he wrote his last poem “On November 1984” based on the Indira Gandhi assassination.
In 1966 Harivansh Rai Bachchan was nominated for the Indian Rajya Sabha, and three years later, the government honored him with the Sahitya Akademi Award.
In 1976, Padma Bhushan was honored for his outstanding contribution to the development of Hindi language. Bachchan Ji died on January 18, 2003, due to the poor physical condition of the 96 years of age.
