PM releases 100 rupees coin in honor of Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a commemorative coin worth 100 rupees in honor of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The coin was released a day before Vajpayee’s 94th birth anniversary.
The former prime minister died at the age of 93 by prolonged illness, at the AIIMS in the national capital in August 2018.
PM Modi said, “The mind is not ready to believe that Atalji is no longer with us, he was supposed to love and respect all sections of the society.“
He also said that the party, which “Atalji built brick by brick” has become the largest political parties. PM added Vajpayee as a speaker was unparalleled.
Features of the Rs 100 coin:
- Former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee on one side of the coin, in which his name is inscribed. The dates of his birth and death are written bottom of the coins.
- In another side of the coin is Ashok Pillar Singh Capital, in which ‘Satyamev Jayate’ is written. There is also ‘India’ in English on this side, while ‘India’ in Devanagari.
- 100 rupees coin weighs about 135 grams, is composed of four metals, which include silver (50 percent), copper (40 percent), zinc (5 percent), and nickel (5 percent).
About Atal Bihari Vajpayee:
Atal Bihari Vajpayee was a highly experienced politician, who worked as the Prime Minister of India three times in a row.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee was born in Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) on December 25, 1924, in the middle-class Brahmin family of Krishna Devi and Krishna Bihari Vajpayee.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee became a Union Minister in 1977.
Vajpayee became the first person to deliver a speech at the United Nations General Assembly in Hindi.
In 1980, Vajpayee formed the Bharatiya Janata Party with Lal Krishna Advani, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, and BJS and other people of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
In the 1984 elections, the BJP had established itself as an important political party in Indian politics. After the 1996 general elections, Vajpayee took oath as India’s 10th Prime Minister, where BJP emerged as the largest party in the Lok Sabha.
The NDA got a full majority and Vajpayee was able to complete the term for the first time as a non-Congress PM for five years (1999-2004). On October 13, 1999, Atal Bihari Vajpayee took oath as the Prime Minister of India for the third time.
Death of Vajpayee Ji :
Vajpayee suffered a major health problem after being hit in 2009, affecting his speech ability. On June 11, 2018, his health status worsened and in severe condition, he was admitted to AIIMS, Delhi. After being admitted for more than 2 months, due to prolonged illness Vajpayee died on August 16, 2018, at 5:05 pm.
