Countries rank in Climate Change Index 2019:
the United Nations Summit on Global Warming, Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) 2018 was released. According to the index, Sweden is at the top of the list while India stands at 11th position.
Sweden leads the ranking, followed by Morocco and Lithuania. The bottom five in this year’s CCPI are Saudi Arabia, the United States, Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Korea and Chinese Taipei, scoring low or very low across almost all categories.
The CCPI 2019 results illustrate the main regional differences in climate protection and performance within the 56 evaluated countries and the EU.
The EU has reached the 21st to the 16th position, but Germany’s biggest economy fell from 22nd to 27th, due to its reliance on lignite coal, a large source of greenhouse gas emissions.
Saudi Arabia has come down 60th in part due to its obstructive role during international climate talks.
