What is the Sahitya Academy Award 2018?

Sahitya Akademi Award is a literary honor in India, which provides the authors of the Sahitya Akademi, the National Academy of Letters of India annually, in any Indian language, the most outstanding books of literary merit.

Award is given in 24 languages, including 22 listed in the eighth schedule of the Indian Constitution, along with English and Rajasthani recognized by the Sahitya Akademi in New Delhi.

Founded in 1954(First award given in 1954), this award includes a plaque and cash award of ₹ 100000. The objective of the award is to recognize and promote excellence in Indian writing and accept new trends. The annual process of selection of awards goes on for the last 12 months.

Sahitya Academy Award 2018:

The names of the award winners were announced by the Sahitya Akademi on December 05, 2018, in the year 2018. 24 authors have been selected for Sahitya Academy Award-2018. This time seven collections of poems, six novels, six story collections, three critiques, and two essay collections have been selected for the prestigious award. They were approved at the Academy’s executive board meeting chaired by the chairman of the Academy, Dr. Chandrasekhar Kambar.

Sahitya Akademi Award Ceremony:

In the special ceremony to be held in the national capital on January 29, 2019, the winners will be given an amount of one lakh rupees, an engraved copper plate, and shawl in the form of a prize. Under the language award, a million rupees cash, an engraved copper plate, and a citation are provided to the award winners.
