India ranked 108th in the Global Gender Gap Index: WEF Report
India is ranked 108th in the World Economic Forum (WEF) ‘s Gender Gap Report of 2018. This report was released by the World Economic Forum on December 18, 2018, in Geneva, Switzerland, which has been studied in different countries of the world.
The report says that women are doing great work in every field but the opportunities are not similarities at present. According to the report, it will take 202 years to bring about equality between women and men in the field of work.

2. Norway – 83.5%

About India in the Gender Gap Index 2018:
In the report of 2018, India has ranked 108th in this survey of 149 countries. In the year 2017, India had the same rank.while in 2016, it was ranked the 87th position which is 21 times better than a present.
In the report of the year 2017, the decline of India’s ranking was mainly attributed to increased gender inequality in the areas of political empowerment, healthy life expectancy, and basic literacy.
In the report, Bangladesh is in the best position with South Asian countries, with 48th place. In the year 2017, Bangladesh was also the best in the gender disparate ranking in South Asia; Bangladesh ranked 47 last year.
In the latest report of the World Economic Forum on Gender Gap, Sri Lanka and Nepal are placed at 100th and 105th place respectively. The Maldives ranks 113, while Bhutan has 122. Afghanistan has not been included in this survey.
In the survey conducted on 149 countries, Pakistan’s rank is 148, while the lowest 149th place has been kept in the civil war in Yemen.
India breaks down in all four categories:
- In terms of financial participation and opportunities, India was ranked 139th in 2017, while in the year 2018 it was the 142nd place.
- In the health and life expectancy category, India is at 147th place in 2018 which is 146th ranked last year.
- In terms of political empowerment, India’s position is 19th, whereas last year it was at number 15.
- In the level of education, India has dropped two places to 114th rank. India was 112th last year.
What is the Global Gender Gap Report?
The Global Gender Gap Report was published for the first time by the World Economic Forum in 2006. The 2017 report includes 144 major and emerging economies. The global gender gap index is an index designed to measure gender equality.
The reports to measure the gender equality conditions of the country according to the gender gap between women and men in four major areas. Health, education, economy, and politics.
The report measures women’s disadvantage compared to men and is not strictly a measure of equality.
The three highest ranking countries have closed over 84% of their gender gaps, while the lowest ranking country has closed only a little over 50% of its gender gap. It “assesses countries on how well they are dividing their resources and opportunities among their male and female populations
